Under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, the export licensing procedure is required to manufacture, process, treat, preserve, grade, package or label food for export, when an exporter wishes to obtain an export certificate or another export permission from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. These requirements do not apply to food additives, alcoholic beverages, or unprocessed food set out in Schedule 1of the regulations.
The purpose for the licensing procedure is for exporters to demonstrate that they have taken appropriate controls to meet Canadian and importing country food safety and consumer protection requirements when requesting an export certificate.
Under Safe Food for Canadians Act and the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations the Canadian Food Inspection Agency can provide food export certificates for all food commodities to meet importing country requirements.
