General description
Import and export prohibition, and non-automatic licensing on endangered species
National legal basis
The Environmental Law of Afghanistan published in Official Gazette No 912 on 25 January 2007; entered into force on 27 December 2006
Administrative mechanism
Import and export of animals and plants listed in Appendix I to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is prohibited.
An export license from the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) is necessary for the exportation (or re-exportation) of any specimen of any species of fauna or flora contained in the Lists of harvestable and protected species prepared by the NEPA pursuant to Article 47 of the Environmental Law of Afghanistan
