National legal basis
Division 4A of the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1958. Defence Trade Controls Act 2012 for intangible exports i.e., technology; Weapons of Mass Destruction (Prevention of Proliferation) Act 1995; Defence and Strategic Goods List 2024.
Administrative mechanism
The export, supply, publication and brokering of certain goods, software, technology or services listed on the Defence and Strategic Goods List 2024 (DSGL) areis prohibited unless a permit has been issued by the Minister for Defence (or their delegate). There are a number of exemptions and exceptions to this requirement listed in the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012 and Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1958.
